ABOUT

Welcome to my blogspot page! Here is my home for all of the news on what I am currently doing with my cultured species of cockroaches. I'm here to assist, educate, and work with the community. Whether you're an up-and-coming cockroach culturer or just a pet owner, if you're new here, thank you for stopping by and I hope my page helps you in some way!

For those that are new: The cockroach-keeping community is relatively small. Active hobbyists know each other well, especially those in the United States. We stay in-touch with one another on blogs like these, the Roach Forum, discord, and other social sites like Reddit. Having places to communicate with each other online is very important, as cockroach species live in just about every part of the world and the online web is the only place enthusiasts in every part can work together.
Some names you may be familiar with are InvertebrateDude, Roach Crossing, The Wild Martin, and Orin McMonigle. These individuals are poster faces for education and scientific work in the roach community, and you'll get familiar with them as you explore.

What is the goal in the roach-keeping community? It's simple: discovering forms of husbandry for each species of cockroach to further our understanding of them, conserve them, educate the public about them, and of course, love them. Some hobbyists like InvertebrateDude have extensive knowledge of cockroach morphology and dedicate their time to properly organize, label, and identify species of cockroaches both in the wild and in the hobby. Hobbyists like Roach Crossing dedicate their time and resources to building a massive collection of cultured species to archive a library of cockroaches. Others like Orin McMonigle work on isolating certain individuals for specific traits to see the possibility of change in roach morphology, and do complex experiments with the needs of cockroaches to discover the best husbandry for each species (in fact, Orin is among the handful of pioneers of roach keepers in the United States, having been among the first to bring them to the country and the only one to have published a book with extensive knowledge on keeping cockroaches. He's the father of the roach-keeping community 😆).

My role is to do whatever I can to assist our community. I want to not only build a personal collection but also study husbandry for newly-kept species so that not only can you have the chance to own that species but educational and scientific organizations can have the opportunity to study them in captivity. There are over 5,000 species of cockroaches in the world, and we've barely scratched the surface on understanding what their capable of. Join me on my journey as I learn about and love these wonderfully unique animals. 💛🪳
